Shane de Beer tragically lost his family in a fire on Sunday, 18th of July 2010.

Due to a faulty light switch in his home, his entire house burnt to the ground with his wife, Monica (35), son Rogan (4) and daughter Milla (2) still inside it.

In addition to the trauma he is going through with losing his family, Shane also has to deal with the financial and practical implications the fire has had – everything from linen and towelling to furniture and clothing has to be replaced.

And so, Joburg.co.za in association with Joburg Foodies and together with Michelangelo Hotel invites you to a “Dinner of Gratitude”, a night when we can show our support and at the same time remember what we have to be grateful for. Our aim is to donate all additional funds to the Shane de Beer Trust, while also having an incredible night out with family and friends. It’s going to be a night to celebrate all that we have, while also remembering to live each day to the fullest.

On the night, you can also buy Balloons of Gratitude for R20 each. All the funds raised will go to the Shane de Beer Trust, and those that would like to, can join us outside to release the balloons later in the evening. If you are unable to attend but would still like to help, you can purchase an “e-balloon” which you can email to a friend or loved one to tell them how grateful you are that they are in your life. Roasted Butternut & Sesame seed Ravioli
Served on sautéed mushrooms with a pea velouté

Aromatic Butter Chicken Curry
Chicken cubes simmered in a blend of aromatic Indian spices
