What Is It?
After a successful inaugural show last year, Design Joburg will be back for yet another unmissable design event! Design Joburg, featuring Rooms on View, will once again be offering the largest selection of design industry trailblazers, all of whom will transform the Sandton Convention Centre into a nucleus of interior (and exterior) design inspiration.
For years, Rooms on View has enjoyed the title of SA’s benchmark decorating show and has become an integral show-within-a-show at Design Joburg. Discerning lovers of décor and design will again be thrilled by exhibitors displaying their wares within innovative room sets. Last year’s collaborations were an absolute hit and this year’s instalment will see these features return, now dubbed as CoLabs.
The overall concept remains the same: curated feature exhibits bringing together leading architects and interior designers with top drawer brands, local artisans and suppliers. The show’s exciting partnership with paint brand Fired Earth (as sponsors of the CoLab features) will see 11 new paint colours, all created with the CoLab designers, launched at the show. The more established studios like Design Partnership, Tristan du Plessis, Blacksmith Interiors and Joe van Rooyen, will also be taking on mentoring roles and working with young emerging designers. Expect boundaries to be pushed, and some really progressive displays to evolve!
The Design Joburg foodie features at the event include the main central restaurant which will be curated by Marble’s David Higgs and the Marble restaurant team and interior designer, Irene Kyriacou. Named as Johannesburg’s coolest fine dining hot spot, Marble will be bringing the culinary magic with their pop up restaurant – also entitled CoLab – to the show. The show’s gin bar is a collaboration between Hendrick’s Gin and premier African lifestyle brand, Ardmore. Visitors can expect an imaginative and relaxing space, created by the show’s creative directors Andrea Kleinloog and Megan Hesse, reflecting what might be the results of film director Tim Burton going on safari.
The Architect’s Gallery is a new addition and poised as the central feature of the show. It will be an exhibit of the work of South Africa’s leading architectural community. Since tactile, take-away elements are a must, there’ll be loads of leading décor brands selling their wares and providing visitors with instant gratification in the show’s Retail Corridor.
