Must-Visit Thai Food Joints

Admit it, there’s something very exotic about Thai food that gets your taste buds tingling just at the mere mention of it. Originating from Thailand, Thai cuisine is best known for being balanced and having a wide variety of options.

Thai food

Placing great emphasis on lightly prepared meals with strong aromatic flavours and a spicy element makes Thai cuisine stand out among most. The combination of either sour, sweet, salty, bitter or spicy, as well as colour and texture, is why most people are drawn to Thai food. The balance and play of flavours is unlike any other – it demonstrates intricacy and attention to detail.

Some of the must-try dishes include Thai rice curry, green curry (a favourite for many), massaman curry, pad Thai, som tam, tom yam goong, and moo nam tok. These are also some of the dishes that were featured on the “World’s 50 Best Foods (Readers’ Picks)” – which gives you more reason to try them.

Now you’re probably thinking, “But where can I go to try this amazing Thai food the Joburg team is raving about?” Well, we have compiled a list of some of our favourite Thai food joints in the city. Check them out below.

  1. You are missing the best of all – Thai Meals in Cyroldene (about a year or two old). Most authentic Thai food restaurant in JHB according to my partner who lived in Thailand. Warning: very slow service.

  2. there is a Thai restuarant at Dainfern Square called Yume that serves the yummiest, most sophisticated Thai food. their Tom yum soup R60 is Exactly the way it is served in Thailand and their noodle dishes are just the best you can choose type of noodle type of protein and type of sauce and its R80 for a huge bowl. Delicious.
