For more than 200 years the annual Oktoberfest in Munich has been a defining part of Bavarian culture and has grown to become the worlds largest festival, attracting more than five million people from around the globe to Germany each year. Attending the Oktoberfest is on the bucket list for many, but this year South Africans will not have to travel abroad for the experience, as Oktober Bierfest is coming to Johannesburg.
Specially trained Frauleins serve fistfuls of frothing Bavarian-styled beer and an array of German cuisine, while the Oompah band, consisting of German expats, create a festive mood with traditional Bavarian music.
In order to bring the taste of Germany to Oktober Bierfest, founding partner The South African Breweries Ltd (SAB), will be brewing beers exclusively for the event. You will be able to enjoy Royal Bavaria Oktoberfest Bier, King Ludwigs Munich Dunkel and Protea Edelweiss Krystal Weiss.
If beer is not your beverage of choice, an array of wines will also be available with Blaauwklippen a German owned farm in Stellenbosch, being the supplier.
Date: From 27 October (for corporate and hospitality bookings only) and open to the public from 28 to 30 October 2011
Venue: Montecasinos Outdoor Event Area
