Monday, 2nd to Saturday, 28th of June
In celebration of Nelson Mandela’s 90th birthday this year, Joburg Promusica Theatre is proud to announce that it will be staging a production, titled “Madiba Magic”, from Monday, 2nd to Saturday, 28th of June.
The stage production of “Madiba Magic” is a collection of Nelson Mandela’s favourite children’s stories from the book with the same title, and adapted for stage by Hein van Zyl and the Joburg Promusica team.
The stories originate from all over Africa, and will be presented in the typical story-telling genre from the African culture. Some of the exciting fables include: The Hare’s Revenge, The Snake Chief, Van Hunks and the Devil, Madipetsani and the Ledimo and King Lion’s Gifts.
The true magic of these fables will be staged amongst glorious sets with stunning innovative costumes. Filled with spunk, mystery and spectacle you can expect to come on an adventure through forests and rivers, meeting many different animals – and learning a few lessons and morals in the process.
A significant attraction of “Madiba Magic”, is the exciting and original musical score that has been written specifically for this production by Dawid Boverhoff, in collaboration with Ntsepa Pitjeng.
Headed by Pieter Bosch Botha as Director, the rest of the production team will consist of Dawid Boverhoff as Musical Director, Hlengiwe Makhoba as Choreographer and Kosie Smit as Set Designer. Some of the cast members include Ntsepa Pitjeng (Noddy, Gingerbread Man, James & the Giant Peach), Molebatsi Lekgetha (Aint’ Misbehaving, Soweto Story, Grimm Tales), Botha Enslin (Pinocchio, Rapunzel, James & the Giant Peach), and Zenande Mfenyana (Rapunzel).
