Easy as that!

Restaurants You Just Have To Visit

Table 29

This might be a bold statement but Table 29 could very well be the only reason to visit Midrand. This family business serves up tasty pizzas, crumbed calamari and a wide range of shooters to wash it all down with.

Where: 5 George Road, Midrand, Johannesburg.

Bread & Roses

The new kid on the Melville block, Bread & Roses is already pretty popular … we think it has something to do with their all-day breakfasts! Hello, pancakes with cream, strawberries and berry sauce. Are you sold on this place yet?

Where: Corner 4th Avenue and 5th Street, Melville, Johannesburg.

The Great Burger Company

The burgers here are as crazy as your imagination! This new spot in Illovo lets you build your own, so go wild! They’ve got pre-thought out options for those lacking in the creative department, don’t you worry.

Where: Shop 2B, Illovo Junction, Corlet Drive, Illovo, Johannesburg.

The Usual On Grant

What was once Europa is now The Usual on Grant. All the meals on the menu are named after streets in Norwood so if you’re from that ‘hood (and even if you aren’t), be sure to try it out! It’s safe to say that their chocolate milkshakes are to die for.

Where: 66 Grant Avenue, Norwood, Johannesburg.

The Leopard

One-of-a-kind food, mismatched dècor and unbelievable attention to detail is what you’ll find at The Leopard. All their food is local, ethical, seasonal and unlike anything you’ve eaten before … food truly is art at this Melville joint.

Where: 63A 4th Avenue, Melville, Johannesburg.

Ice Cream Sunday

So this one’s not quite a restaurant but we couldn’t leave it out. The flavours at this monthly pop-up event are unreal and they change all the time so you’ll never know what’ll be on the menu! Hang out, listen to some live music and indulge in ice cream. How better to spend a Sunday?

Where: Unit 8 Micro Venue, 16 High Road, Bramley, Johannesburg.

Sumting Fresh

Another not-quite-restaurant but something certainly worth mentioning … you’ll find Sumting Fresh at a range of markets around Joburg. Hunt them down and try out their famous crumbed chicken dish. Just a warning: you might have to queue but it’s worth it!

Where: The Neighbourgoods Market, Braamfontein every Saturday 9am-3pm, and The Fourways Farmers’ Market, Fourways every Sunday 10am-3pm.

Trio Cafe

Looking for a new spot to get your caffeine fix? Trio Cafe will sort you out with a strong cup of coffee, best coupled with their corn cakes, which make breakfast taste like dessert! Bring your laptop for a coffice workspot or catch up with friends and check Trio out.

Where: 116 Greenway, Road, Johannesburg.

Hell’s Kitchen

Don’t be fooled – Hell’s Kitchen is predominantly a bar but they serve up a mean meal that goes hand-in-hand with their signature Hellfire cinnamon-flavoured whiskey. Recommended is their HK Burger. It may look huge at first but you can handle it – we have faith in you. Yum!

Where: Shop 4, 7th Street, Melville, Johannesburg.
