Bright Young Chefs Holiday Club Baking Workshops
Bright Young Chefs will be hosting a Spring holiday club to keep the little ones busy and entertained from 01 – 05 October 2018. The cost is R150 per 3-hour session, which includes a chef’s hat, use of all the equipment and ingredients needed, refreshments, aprons (for use only) and takeaway containers. Lillian Gray Holiday Art Programme
Are your kids creatives? If yes, then enroll them into the Lillian Gray Holiday Art Programme ASAP! This holiday workshop will focus on a different artist and their specific techniques each day of the programme. The programme is as follows: Day 1 – Acrylic painting; Day 2 – Clay; Day 3 – Print making; Day 4 – collage; Day 5 – scraper board and painting clay statues. The kids will be exposed to various mediums of art so that they can explore and find what they are drawn to most. The programme takes place between 01 – 05 October 2018 so book ASAP as space is limited. For five days of fun, it’ll cost R990 per child.
Musical Theatre Holiday Club
If your kids have a keen interest in the arts and dream of becoming a Broadway star one day, then why not let them enjoy a Musical Theatre Holiday Club at the Johannesburg Academy for Theatre Arts? The club is focused on all school-going children of various ages (between 6 – 16 years old) and offers a programme that evolves around co-ordination, musicality, expression, voice projection, improvisation and performance. No previous experience is needed and the staff work with the children’s individual and unique abilities. The club will run from 01 – 05 October 2018 daily from 8:30 to 12:00.
The WITS Planetarium
They might not have a school holiday programme but they do have some awesome celestial public shows coming up that’ll delight the kids. The last two shows this September for teens and kids will be The Sky Tonight (Friday, 28 September 2018 from 19:30) and Space Travel (Saturday, 29 September 2018 from 10:30) so book your spots ASAP. Also, make sure you keep an eye out for their October show lineup.
Shepherd’s Fold Stables Pony Camp
Perfect for reconnecting your kids with nature, the Shepherd’s Fold Stables’ Pony Camp offers a fun and exciting learning experience, especially for kids that have a fondness for horses. The programme will be taking place from 01 – 05 October 2018 and offers five days of riding lessons, outrides, hands-on care of horses, lots of activities, lectures and games. And don’t worry, no previous riding experience is needed as all riding abilities will be catered for in a supervised and controlled environment. Children aged between 6 to 16 years are welcome. Rangers Day at Lory Park Zoo
Another fun and interesting school holiday programme that will get the kids out and about is Rangers Day at Lory Park Zoo from 02 – 05 October 2018 (08:00 – 16:00). This gives children the opportunity to be a zoo ranger for the day, and they’ll clean some enclosures, help prepare food for the resident animals and also get to interact with the zoo’s ambassador animals. The whole experience will be supervised at all times by the education officer or on-duty supervisor to ensure their safety. Cost is R190 per day, which will include a hot dog, small Oros, a packet of NikNaks and a Paddle Pop ice-cream. Also ensure your child has extra water, sunscreen and old clothes that can get dirty, as well as extra snacks to nibble on throughout the day.
Kickin It Old School Camp
It might not be too late to book a spot for your kids at the Kickin’ It Old School Camp at Immaculate Equestrian Academy in Walkerville from 30 September 2018 – 05 October 2018. It’s the perfect way to get them away from their gadgets, off the couch and outdoors playing and making new friends. There will be plenty of indoor and outdoor activities to keep the kids entertained. Costs are as follows: R250 per day without the sleepover (can attend one or two days during the week); R450 per day with sleepover; R1 000 for day campers doing the whole camp; R2 000 for sleepover campers doing the whole camp.
Cooking Bootcamp with The Wooden Spoon Kitchen
This one has extremely limited spacing (12 kids) so make sure you book today. This course is perfect for keen young cooks. It is a little intense but is also five days filled with lots of fun. Now for the details: the cooking bootcamp is open to children aged nine and upwards and the cost is R2 500 per child. The Bootcamp runs from 01 – 05 October 2018 and starts daily at 08:30 sharp. Your kids will not only learn how to cook delectable meals but also delve a little deeper into topics like sustainability, gardening, organic farming, healthy eating, eating more plants and how to cook under pressure.
National Children’s Theatre Holiday Camp
The National Children’s Theatre presents their Charlie and the Chocolate Factory themed holiday camp, taking place from 01 – 05 October 2018, 09:00 – 12:00 daily. Cost is R1 500 for the five days of fun and theatre. Booking is essential, so make sure you secure your spots as soon as possible. Also, your children must arrive each day wearing “workout” clothing (t-shirts and tights/jeans/slacks/shorts, no midriffs). Also, no flip-flops, and hair must be tied back.
Spring Holiday Care
Looking to get the kids out of the house during the school holidays? Even if it’s just for one afternoon? Let them have a blast with The Express!ons Kids Club who’ll be hosting a diverse and entertainment filled holiday care programme. From 25 September – 08 October 2018, kids can take part in a variety of fun activities including arts and crafts, yoga and dance, drama and music, gardening, baking, cooking and more. There will also be Minute-To-Win-It challenges and the ever-popular science fair. And to blow off some steam, there’s extensive playground facilities set in a beautiful countryside.
