Top 10 Cafés In Joburg

If, like me, you happen to love people watching or are just looking for a great little spot to sit back and relax with a cuppa, then be sure to check out my list of Top 10 Cafés in Joburg.

I absolutely love visiting cafés … and, surprisingly, it has little to do with the food, coffee or the fact that they are excellent spots to meet with friends and almost everything to do with the fact that I love to sit back and get some people watching done! Sure, it may come across as a little creepy – eyeballing strangers as they walk by, wondering about their lives, causing them to self consciously fidget in order to try correct whatever they think I am staring at – but it certainly is a great way to pass the time! So, if like me, you happen to love people watching or are just looking for a great little spot to sit back and relax with a cuppa, then be sure to check out my list of Top 10 Cafés in Joburg.

Vovo Telo – Parkhurst

At Vovo Telo, bread is so much more than just bread – it’s passion! And, every day they offer freshly baked ciabatta, rye, sourdough, brioche and more from their bakery. Their hearty meals and pastries are also to die for and make for a fantastic quick lunch. The great thing about Vovo Telo is that there is plenty to choose from on the food front (including delights like artisan bread sandwiches and healthy salads) and even more fabulous drinks to sip on. I find their Belgian Hot Chocolate is the best cure to chase way the chill on a cold winter’s day.

This little spot in Linden is perfect if you are looking to sit back, relax and read a book, or simply just to hang out and catch up with a friend.

Trio Café – Greenside

What was once Odd Café in Greenside is now Trio Cafe. It’s definitely a cool place to meet up with a friend to chat over a cup of coffee … just look for the building with the sleek black, grey and wooden finishes. They offer a comfortable space to sit back, relax and enjoy a bite to eat. Their menu is filled all kinds of yummies like corn cakes, flapjacks, burgers and snack foods! I especially love the potato skins served with crispy bacon, feta, fresh thyme and aioli.

Café De La Crème  Melville

Back in my days at UJ, Café De La Crème was the place to be if you were looking to get away from campus for some relaxation and socialising, or even some peace and quiet to get some last minute studying in before a semester test. Not only does this little café offer fantastic lattés and delicious café meals, but their patisserie side also offers some of the most decadent treats which have been baked on the premises! From cakes and freshly baked bread, to muffins and other tempting sweet delights, there is always something to satisfy your sweet tooth at Café De La Crème.

Doppio Zero  Greenside

Doppio Zero happens to be one of my favourite spots when visiting the Greenside strip. I love the fact that the restaurant has a lot of outside seating for you to take in all the sounds of the city and catch some rays. They also serve fantastic milkshakes and coffee and their breakfasts are hearty and definitely hit the spot first thing in the morning. Also, all of their bread is freshly baked on the premises daily, and I can never seem to resist passing up on their croissants.

Thai Café  Greenside

I must admit, Greenside has been popping out some awesome little cafes along their busy strip. A new addition to the Greenside family is Thai Café. What I love about this spot is that it is fresh, offers amazing Thai food (sit down or takeaway), and everything on the menu is so affordable  you can literally pick anything you want. Make sure you don’t miss out on the Sweet and Sour Crispy Duck! It’s absolutely delicious!

Conscious 108 – Greenside

Another gem on the Greenside strip, Conscious 108 is a vegan paradise! I know it is difficult for vegans to find a menu that has a great selection of dishes to choose from, so I definitely had to mention this spot (I didn’t forget about you guys!). Everything on their menu is vegan-friendly and they are more than happy to cater to whatever dietary requirements you have, from gluten-free breads and wraps to dairy-free ice cream they’ve got it all! Their burgers are so delicious they would fool even the most zealous meat eater!
