Winter is well on its way now – the nights are drawing, the trees are losing their colour and it’s getting noticeably colder. It’s hard to believe that summer is already over (sad face), but it’s time to start thinking about coats, scarves and hats again, if you haven’t already done so.
It’s also time to start thinking about what you’ll be carrying in your handbag during the chillier seasons of the year. So, here are some of the top essentials that might need to see you through, as we head toward the colder months.
One of the first things to pop into your bag will have to be the trusty umbrella! Because you can never predict a heavy downpour in Joburg, right? Keep your little fold-up brolly with you at all times.
A handy pack of tissues can be a godsend during the colder months, too. It’s already getting windy, and that’s going to make your eyes and nose run. To add, the first batch of colds and flu aren’t far away either!
With the arrival of the chilly season, the winds pick up and the central heating goes on, so it’s important you keep your lips protected and hydrated with a lip balm starting now. Trust us – this will help you avoid dried or cracked lips later.
Your hands need protection too! Keep them soft, smooth and moisturised at all times by popping a small bottle of hand lotion into your handbag.
You know how it’s going to be – you spend hours getting ready to go out and then the moment you step outside, your hair gets blown everywhere by a strong gust of wind. So pack a hairbrush – you’re going to need it by the time you get to work.
Okay, so we know that it’s not actually winter just yet, but we believe in being prepared! After all, Joburg isn’t too far away from the first frosts of winter, so you’re bound to need a pair of gloves soon.
Pack a small make-up bag consisting of lipstick, mascara, liner, blotting paper, compact powder and, of course, your favourite perfume. You probably carry these items around in summer as well, but with the weather closing in, it’s more likely that your make-up will need a little touching up during the day.
A small handheld mirror will come in handy many times during the day for you to do a quick check for wind damage before you go to a date or an important meeting.
If you do get caught out, a couple of bobby pins can quickly sort out unruly, windswept hair. It might mean an impromptu change of hairstyle, but hey, it’s better than rocking the just-rolled-out-of-bed look!
You’re just as likely to pick up germs on your hands as you are from being next to someone who sneezes (sorry to break it to you). Keep the winter colds at bay by using a hand sanitiser when you can’t get to a bathroom to wash your hands.
