The Orbit

The Orbit specialises in jazz… but it’s not limited to that genre alone. They’ve got all kinds of happenings here! The venue is upmarket, stylish and comfortable, with a large selection of eats and drinks upstairs and a full sit down restaurant downstairs. It’s definitely worth a visit for jazz newbies and aficionados alike.

Carfax is an old favourite… this super club has many faces. What do we mean by that? Well, sometimes they’ll host drum ‘n bass parties, whereas other times they’ll have both local and international acts on their stage – and when they do, know you’re in for a good time!

Coffee shop/freelancer haven by day, watering hole by night, Wolves is a venue that wears many hats. On Thursday nights, their weekly live music event called Howl! goes down and sheds light on a different local artist each time. You might want to get there early if you think you’ll want to sit down – it can get pretty packed. Hint: Don’t leave without having a red velvet cupcake.

Rumours Lounge

Rumours Lounge is a fantastic place to catch a live act. You never know who will be gracing their stage – it could be a local act, it could be an international act…  either way, wear your dancing shoes and head on over there.

Arcade Empire

This Pretoria-based super club is a place where many a party has been held. Like a lot of the above-mentioned spots, all kinds of parties are thrown at Arcade! Things can get rowdy up in here but in a good way… go on, see for yourself!

The Radium Beerhall

The Radium Beerhall is an icon. It’s the second oldest bar in Joburg and has been well-preserved. Shows here are normally the ‘watch-while-eating-delicious-Portuguese-food’ type, but depending on who’s playing, they can get a bit wild! Hint: Order the prawns.

The Good Luck Bar

Located inside 1Fox – The Sheds, The Good Luck Bar is a rad live music venue. Having gotten their liquor license in 1895, it’s actually one of the oldest bars in the city! Keep an eye out to see who’ll be paying there and make sure you don’t miss out on a rad act.
