Braaing is what us South Africans do best! We’re pretty sure you are looking for some spots to fire up the braai and get some steaks on the grill with friends and family. Here are our top spots in the city that provide braai facilities if you’re looking to enjoy a day outdoors, picnicking, and playing some fun sports.


Innesfree Park  Sandton

Kick back, relax, and enjoy some fresh air at Innesfree Park. This is a great location if you’re looking to escape the hustle and bustle of the busy city. Even though it’s situated in the heart of Sandton, it’s great for a quick escape during lunch or over the weekend. There are braai areas provided, just ensure you take your own portable braai, as well as picnic spots and two dams to explore.

Brookwood Estate – Cradle Of Humankind

Get out of the city for a day and enjoy a little break at Brookwood Estate in the Cradle Of Humankind. This destination is perfect if you’re looking to relax, do a little fishing (they have five stock dams for you to fish at), tuck into a little picnic, cool off with a swim, and of course, braai. They have braai facilities complete with tables and chairs. Entry for adults is R70 per person and R50 per child. You can also hire fishing rods.

Gillooly’s  Bedfordview

Gillooly’s offers you great braai facilities, beautiful scenery and enough room for you to run around and play sports. Ladies, you can sunbathe on the soft grass while the men monkey around and show off their braaing skills while grilling up a storm for lunch Be sure to stock up on some refreshing beverages (alcohol is allowed) and pack a picnic basket with yummy treats. Rietvlei Farm – Between Alberton and Mulbarton

This is a great place if you are looking to get out with a family and enjoy a day filled with fun, sunshine, and picnicking. The whole family can enjoy an afternoon playing some putt-putt, visiting the animal farm, taking a ride on the steam train or tractor. Then, round off the day with a lovely family picnic or braai. Be sure to also check out the walking and bicycle trails while taking nature.

Pines Resort  Krugersdorp

For a day out in the sun with family and friends, make your way to Pines Resort out in Krugersdorp for an afternoon of braaing and water slides! Relax and fire up some chops on the braai, find a great spot to have a picnic and keep cool with Pines Resort’s swimming pools and test out their water slides for some fun. There are braaing facilities available.

Rhino and Lion Nature Reserve  Kromdraai

After an afternoon of game watching, sit back and relax with a picnic and braai at the Rhino and Lion Nature Reserve. There are 30 shaded braai areas, a kids play area to keep them entertained and a swimming pool for you to cool off in. Entry is R160 per adult and R120 per child.
