That’s why we’ve gone ahead and listed the best bars to watch the 2015 Rugby World Cup.
Watch the boys on the big (no, huge!) screen at ABSA Boktown at either Montecasino, Silverstar Casino or Gold Reef City. Catch all of the Rugby World Cup action at Emperors Palace and get behind the boys. To make your experience as awesome as possible, wear your favourite Rugby collectables, and if you get spotted, you could win a random prize … how’s that for memorable! You can even book a table at the Barnyard Theatre – R50 entrance gets you a boerewors or prego roll and either a beer, wine, a cider or a soft drink.
Where: 64 Jones Road, Kempton Park, Johannesburg.
There are three Hogshead bars in Joburg – one in Illovo, one in Douglasdale and one in Weltervreden Park. No matter which one you head to, you’re pretty much guaranteed a great Rugby World Cup experience. You might want to book a table to ensure you’ve got enough room to make yourself at home … Hogshead has a tasty menu and they serve ice-cold craft beers … sounds like the perfect spot, don’t you think?

Grandslam Sports Diner
Grandslam Sports Diner has plenty of HD flat screen TVs and one extra large screen, which means that they’re more than well equipped to show the games! Chow down on some pub grub, like the Corn Crumbed Chicken Fillet or a Portuguese Steak (yum!), grab a beer and enjoy the game!
Where: Corner Elm Street and Sycamore Drive, Dowerglen, Edenvale, Johannesburg.
Hard Rock Café
Head to a booth at Hard Rock Café and take in the vibe. Why not try their authentic American cuisine, grab a drink or three and chill out? We suggest heading over a bit earlier to taste their Classic Nachos, some Hickory Smoked Ribs or BBQ Chicken … coupled with one of the many cocktails on offer, of course. Then, watch as the games begin!
Where: Nelson Mandela Square, 8 Maude Street, Sandton, Sandown, Johannesburg.
There are lots of Kegs around Joburg so, no matter which part of town you’re from, there’s bound to be a Keg near you. Have a hearty meal of Bangers and Mash or a Pop Pie and, once your stomach rumbles are satisfied, enjoy the game! The bar has plenty on offer to quench your thirst so no matter what you like to drink, you’ll be sorted in that department … enjoy!
Where: Find a Keg near you on their website.
While The Bohemian is known to be home to artists, writers and musicians, they’re sport lovers too and will be screening the Rugby World Cup. Yay! Plus, you can get some yummies for your tummy – maybe try a burger or even some pub grub … and wash it down with a nice cold drink. Then get ready to scream your lungs out as everyone cheers on the Springboks!
Where: 5 Park Road, Richmond, Johannesburg.
Are you looking for a pub with an energetic atmosphere, and one that’s not too far away to drive to? Well, if you’re in the Randburg area, pay Paddy’s Corner a visit. While you’re at it, why not give their crumbed chicken strips with barbeque sauce or sizzling hot sausage basket a try? Good food and good rugby … what more could you need?!
Where: Canterburry Crossing Shopping Center, Corner Bram Fischer and Hunter Avenue, Ferndale, Randburg, Johannesburg.
Beer House Fourways
Where better to enjoy a great beer than a beer house? And better yet, Beer House Fourways will be screening at the World Cup games … so there really is no reason not to pay them a visit! You can also chow down on something light or go big with a T-bone steak or a Beerhouse beefburger! It sounds like the best way to watch the game, don’t you think?
Where: 1 Sunset Avenue, corner Witkoppen Road, Fourways, Johannesburg.
McGinty’s Irish Pub
We’re willing to bet that most sport fans have been to a McGinty’s at least once. They’re always screening games … so there’s no better place to watch the Rugby World Cup than at a McGinty’s. Catch all your sporting action live, and enjoy a drink and some eats while you do. But be sure to make a reservation just in case – you don’t want to get there and find that they’re all booked up.
Where: Brightwater Commons, Republic Road, Randburg, Johannesburg.
Melrose Arch will show the action on the big screen, ensuring you don’t miss out on any of the excitement! The Piazza or the Square is where to go if you want to watch the games … so why not park off at a restaurant nearby and join other fans for the adrenaline-inducing experience?
