Leafy Greens Café
Self-sustainability, organic and home-grown are some of the words that come to mind when one thinks of Leafy Greens in Muldersdrift. The café is hidden behind lush green ivy and tall fir and oak trees on the premises of one of Mogale’s most popular wedding venues. The eatery grows its own food and concentrates solely on healthy vegan dishes. Aim for the buffet – it’s the best we’ve ever had.
The Greenside Café
From vegan hot chocolate to ancient Argentinian drinks, the Greenside Café boasts it all. This venue serves some of the best vegan pizza in town, so we suggest you swing by and grab a Mexican pizza and maybe a vegan milkshake to finish it off with. Book in advance as the café is very popular among those who care where their food comes from.
If you turn your nose up at the thought of a non-meat burger, you’ll be crazy surprised to taste some of the best in vegan burgers at Conscious 108. And that’s just to start. They also have some epic bunnies, wraps and snacky starters (the crumbed dukkah soy dippers and beer battered tofu are addictive) that will turn meat-eaters into vegan fans immediately. We’re still wondering how they make the BLT wrap taste so much like you’re eating bacon…
The Red Chamber
For Chinese food with vegan/vegetarian alternatives, stop by the Red Chamber for something delicious (and slightly more expensive)! Their cucumber-based Tiger Salad is highly recommended, as are the tasty vegetable spring rolls. If you’re looking for a more substantial meal, see their vegetarian/vegan dishes in the Health corner of their menu. We enjoyed the Braised Tofu with Chinese Shiitake Mushrooms.
Check out this vegan spot that has opened up in Birnam and stock up on some delicious vegan food products – from meals and vegan burgers to cheese and chocolate. Or make a stop and order a take-out from their specials board! There is a new menu every week, packed with freshly prepared salads, stir-fries, wheat/gluten-free pizzas, curries and stews. A must-try is their fantastic vegan-friendly ice cream!
Tasha’s offers a nice selection of vegan/vegetarian dishes. To start your day off healthy, try the Granny Smith, consisting of rolled oats, pumpkin seeds, dried banana, dried mango, dried apple and shredded coconut soaked in apple juice and topped with yoghurt [leave this out to make it vegan] and freshly grated apple. Or order the Wild Mushroom Pasta (wild mushrooms with parsley, garlic, lemon … just ask them to leave out the parmesan shavings) for lunch.
Visit Kung-Fu Kitchen and indulge in some delectable Chinese food and sushi. Veggie soup, veggie spring rolls, veggie Chop Suey, Chow Mein or Chow Faan, they definitely have a veg option for every dish that they serve. And if you’re looking for veggie sushi, then look no further – whether you are craving California Rolls, Hand Rolls, Maki or a Fashion Sandwich – there is a veggie option for you.
Whether you’re looking for a shop to do a little grocery shopping for organic foods or have a relaxing stop at a healthy café for a bite to eat, head down to the Fresh Earth Food Store. Fresh Earth Café will whip up some healthy vegetarian and vegan delights which cater to your dietary requirements, from wheat/gluten intolerances to hypoglycaemia. The Chickpea Avo Wrap is a winner – chickpea stew, avocado, fresh lettuce, spring onion and coriander. Yum!
From pizza to pasta, there is sure to be a good selection of vegetarian/vegan options available at Col’ Cacchio’s. The Ortigiano pizza topped with olives, artichokes, asparagus, green peppers and mushrooms sounds like an interesting mix. And, if you want pasta, why not try the Fresca – roasted vegetables, rocket, sun-dried tomato and pine nuts?
If it’s Mexican vegan food you want, it’s Mexican food you’ll get! Mexican Fresh has a selection of vegetarian and vegan options, so you don’t have to miss out on eating the good stuff. The Grilled Veg Burrito is the ultimate mouthful with grilled peppers, sweetcorn, chopped broccoli and cauliflower, onions, beans, cheese (can be removed if you ask), lettuce, pico de gallo, guacamole and sour cream all wrapped up in a thin burrito! And you can add a little more bite to your meal by asking for extra chilli.
